Give God Your Attitude

      Passage: Psalm 42:1-11

You have a physical body, but your body is not the true you. The essence of your being is your innermost self, which is identified as your soul. Genesis 2:7 describes how God formed Adam from the dust of the earth and then it says that God “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” The Great Commandment says to love God with all your soul and one way your soul is expressed is through your attitude. In Psalm 42, the Psalmist spoke of his soul longing for God like a deer longs for a drink of water during a dry season. He then questioned why his soul was downcast (v. 11), and concluded the Psalm by telling himself to put his hope in God and praise God regardless of how he felt.
One of the gifts God gave you is the ability to choose your attitude. Regardless of what happens to you, you can choose to wallow in self-pity or anger, or you can choose to trust God to care for you and work good for you. (Romans 8:28)  In difficult and disappointing times, love God with all your soul, by giving Him your attitude and letting Him help you look up with hope instead of looking down and around with despair.
