Passage: Luke 18:1-8
There were thousands of people in Jerusalem on the day that Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple when He was over one month old. They did not experience His arrival right after He was born, but they had the opportunity to recognize Him and celebrate His coming over one month later. As far as the scripture tells us, only two people actually recognized who Jesus was. In that way, they are examples of people who experienced Christmas beyond the season. One of those two people was a godly, elderly woman named Anna. One key reason Anna was able to have that experience is that she was a woman of prayer. After her husband died decades earlier, Anna had given herself to interceding for God’s kingdom. God honored that.
God is Sovereign. He does not need me or you to accomplish His purposes, but He has sovereignly chosen to tie His work to the prayers and participation of His people in ministry. C.H. Spurgeon once wrote, “Whether we like it or not, asking is the rule of the Kingdom.” If you want to see God work in mighty ways, you must intercede for that work. As you pray for God’s Kingdom to come, you will experience the joy of seeing Him touch lives and transform people. Pray much and watch God move all year long.
