Yet the Lord set His affection on your forefathers and loved them, and He chose you, their descendants, above all the nations as it is today. Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer. . .” (Deuteronomy 10:14-16)
Passage: John 15:5-17
In your relationship with God, there is absolutely no reason to be arrogant and self-prideful. You didn’t earn your salvation and if good works were required to keep your salvation, you would fail. God did not choose to save you because you were so good. He chose you because He loves you and He wants to use you to reflect Him and to join in His Kingdom work. Jesus did all the work with His perfect life, atoning death and victorious resurrection to provide salvation for anyone who believes.
When Moses told the people to circumcise their hearts, he was calling on them to take an attitude that cut away any self-pride and recognize that they belonged to God by grace, not merit. The attitude is humility, which comes as a bi-product of recognizing dependence. 1 Peter 5:5b says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourself and acknowledge your dependence upon the Lord. He will give extra grace and you will experience a closer walk with Him.
