Hold on to Christ
Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (2 1/2 minutes) “Fear the Lord your God and serve Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in His name. He is your praise; He is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes. Your forefathers who went down into Egypt were seventy in all, and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.” (Deuteronomy 10:20-22)
Passage: 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17
Many years ago, the Johnson and Johnson company came out with a commercial that has run for many years. The main chorus goes, “I am stuck on Band-Aid brand, ‘cause Band-Aid’s stuck on me.” I thought of that when I read Moses telling the Israelites to “hold fast to God”. To hold is to cling to him, to adhere to Him. Holding fast to God does not mean that we are responsible to keep our salvation. Jesus did all the work on the cross. Our salvation is completely by grace through faith. His hold on you will never let go. Now, the response of gratitude is for you to hold on to Him.
How can you hold on to Christ to have a closer walk with Him? Open His Word during the week and talk with Him as a friend. Worship regularly with God’s people. Be part of a small group where you can study God’s Word and find encouragement through relationships with other believers. Involve yourself in a ministry. Be a steward of the resources God gives you. He loves you and He wants you to enjoy a close walk with Him.
