The Call to Christ is a Doable Commitment
Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?’ No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.” (Deuteronomy 30:11-14)
Passage: Philippians 2:12-18
People in the world give all kinds of excuses for rejecting Jesus as Lord and Savior, but excuses are not confined to nonbelievers. Many people who have received God’s gift of salvation, are not living out the purposes of God with faithfulness and if asked, they will give many excuses. (A pastor or someone in the church hurt or disappointed them; they can worship God without being in church; they just try to live out a good life, etc.)
God’s Word lets us know that we cannot earn our salvation by any good work, and we do not keep our salvation by any good work. His Word also tells us that the Holy Spirit is the one who gives us the ability and power to live for Christ. However, the Word also tells us that God gave us a free-will to say yes or no to Him. Moses was referring to that in telling the people that the command to be faithful was a doable commitment. God will give the strength, but you are responsible for your response to His call. Whatever you go through, stay committed and be faithful to Him.
