Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “When I have brought them into the land flowing with mild and honey, the land I promised on oath to their forefathers, and when they eat their fill and thrive, they will turn to other gods and worship them, rejecting me and breaking my covenant. And when many disasters and difficulties come upon them, this song will testify against them, . . .” (Deuteronomy 31:21a)
Passage: Psalm 149:1-9
One of the most memorable images from the Super Bowl came when cameras showed Chris Jones, of the Kansas City Chiefs, with tears during the singing of the National Anthem. The emotions he showed were reflective of the power of music to speak to the heart as it refers to the seat of ones will and emotions. Music has the power to make a person feel inspired, motivated, relaxed, sad, convicted and more.
God told Moses that the song he wrote would testify or speak against the people when they turned away from Him. In that same way, the songs we sing will speak to our hearts. In Colossians 3:16, Paul writes, “Let the work of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” Thank God for the gift of music. Listen to the music and let Him speak to your heart through it.
