Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “ ‘And when many disasters and difficulties come upon them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do, even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath.’ So Moses wrote down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites.” (Deuteronomy 31:21b-22)

     Passage: Psalm 92:1-8

One of the amazing things about our minds is that it is easier to memorize words that are sung than words that are spoken. You won’t remember many sermons you hear, but you will remember many songs that you’ve sung. Scientific studies have found that the part of the brain that houses the library of music is the last part of the brain to deteriorate. That is why you could go to a memory care facility and find that many of the residents, even if they can’t remember the names of their children, will be able to sing along with the hymns they grew up with in church.

This gift of the power of music to stay in your mind is one of the reasons it is important to be in worship and also to consider what kind of music you are primarily listening to throughout the week. Consider whether they songs you hear are edifying to your life. Do they challenge you to be the best you can be for Christ? Do they lift up Jesus and agree with God’s Word? Thank God for the gift of music and let songs of the faith be in your mind.
