Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, he said to them, ‘Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you – they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.’ ” (Deuteronomy 32:45-47)
Passage: Psalm 138:1-8
Jesus was regularly criticized by Jewish religious leaders. One time they observed his disciples eating without washing their hands the correct way according to Jewish tradition. Jesus chastised them by saying Isaiah was talking about them when he prophesied, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” (Mark 7:6) Jesus later told His disciples that food can’t make someone unclean because it “doesn’t go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body. . . For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean’. (Mark 7:19-23)
Much of the music the world produces has catchy tunes, but trashy lyrics. Many lyrics glorify drug and alcohol use, aggression and resistance to police, sexual immorality and more. This is one of the reasons we see such decay in our society. The music that goes into the heart has power to surface in the life. May the music your hear help others to see Jesus reflected in you.
