Freedom is Bought with a Price

     Passage: Romans 5:6-11

A little boy looked at a big plaque on the wall of the foyer in the old country church. He asked his mother, “What is this?” His mother replied, “It is a Memorial Plaque with the names of people who have died while in the service.” The boy then asked, “Were they in the morning service or the evening service?”

Today is Memorial Day. Begun after the Civil War to remember those who died during the war, both Union and Confederate soldiers. Remembering is important. President Franklin Roosevelt once said, “Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy, forget in time that men (and women) have died to win them.” We are blessed to live in this country with the freedom to worship. That freedom was bought and is preserved by our soldiers in the armed services. Yet, we must always remember that the eternal freedom we enjoy was bought with the death of our Lord Jesus and sealed with His resurrection. Give thanks today for all those who have given themselves in the cause of freedom and give thanks that Jesus gave His life to give eternal freedom to you.
