Look Up Like Children to Jesus

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “ And He said, ‘I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.’ ” (Matthew 18:3-4)
Passage: 1 Corinthians 4:1-7
No matter how short an adult may be, little children are still smaller and must look up physically. Little children also look up to their parents dependently and trust they will be taken care of. They don’t worry about electric bills, food prices or other things. That image of looking up is a picture of the humility Jesus described as necessary to be great in God’s eyes. Humility is a bi-product of dependence. It is looking up to God as the source of your supply in life.
The first way you must look up is recognizing your dependence upon Christ for your salvation and eternal life. There is not one thing you can do to earn that. The work has all been completed by Jesus and it is offered to you freely by grace through the simple act of faith. The second way you must look up is in recognizing your dependence upon Christ as the source of all your supply for life. Those who think they don’t need God will find one day that depending on themselves or on the things of this world was like building a house on sand. Jesus is the firm foundation and when you trust Him like a child, you will be great in God’s eyes.
