Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Finally they said, ‘Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?’ John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, ‘I am the voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’ ” (John 1:22-23)
Passage: 1 Corinthians 7:32-35
John the Baptist was content with who he was and he was consecrated to God. Consecration is being set apart for God’s service. It is having a clear focus on why you are here on earth. John had that focus. He new that is call was to be the forerunner of the Messiah, who was Jesus. His task was to call people to prepare themselves by getting their lives right with God and living in relationship with God instead of just having a religion about God.
Many believers present an unfocused picture to the world about Jesus and His church. They don’t have a clear focus on God’s purpose for them. That purpose was expressed by Jesus as He was praying on His way to the Garden of Gethsemane prior to His arrest and crucifixion. He said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. . . I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.” (John 4:1-4) Your main purpose is “glorify God and work with Him as He builds His Kingdom.” Be consecrated to Jesus in that purpose and live a focused life for Him.
