Be Consistent for Jesus

     Passage: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

I have been the pastor of three churches over the past thirty-eight years and have been in vocational ministry for over four-four years. In all those years, I have had people respond to the invitation and make a public decision to follow Christ and become part of our local church. In all those years, I have never heard one person ever say, “Pastor, I am making this decision today, but I don’t intend to come back.” Yet, many people do just that. They make a decision for Christ. They become members of a local church family. They come for a while, but then they drop out. When the world looks at that as a picture of whether going to church makes any difference, it is a very unfocused picture.
John the Baptist gave a clear picture of a person who was focused on Christ. He was content in who he was. He was consecrated to the purpose God had for him to be the forerunner of the Messiah. He was also consistent. That consistency is demonstrated by the constant activity he did of preaching and baptizing people who renewed their commitment to God. Be consistent in worship, Bible study, personal time with God, stewardship and service. Consistency will help keep your life’s picture of Jesus in focus and lead to a “well done” from the Lord.
