Everything is the Same Under the Sun

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises. The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course, . . .What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:5-6, 9)
Passage: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21
As Solomon was reflecting on life under the sun, one of his general observations that made him comment on the meaningless of life was that everything in life is the same. Nothing is new. Human nature is the same as it has been since sin entered the world in the Garden of Eden. Fashion trends are simply different styles of the same thing – clothing. Some may argue that technology is new, but every technology we have is simply an updated, faster way to communicate, find information, manufacture products or do things like photography and entertainment. Life on this earth is like being on a treadmill that is increasing in speed. Things are moving faster, but they are not taking mankind anywhere he hasn’t been.
The solution is not found under the sun, but in the SON. Jesus makes everything new. Paul spoke of this in 2 Corinthians 5:17 and when he spoke of Jesus making a person new, the word for new meant new in time and kind. In Christ, you are a new person. He doesn’t change the job you have, but He makes it new by transforming it from a job to a ministry. In Christ you have a new life, a new outlook, a true purpose. All things are new in Him.
