Knowledge Cannot Give True Significance
Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “I thought to myself, ‘Look, I have grown and increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.’ Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 1:16-17)
Passage: Romans 8:12-17
I have an old axe in my garage. It can use it, but not very effectively, because it has a dull blade and I have not taken the time to get it sharpened. That is one picture of the benefit of education. It can help you be sharper mentally and potentially help you be more successful in what you do. That was part of my reason for getting the education I did in preparation for the ministry I felt called to do. I got a bachelor's degree in business before getting two degrees from seminary, a master’s and a doctorate. I believe that education and other seminars, books, etc. have helped me be sharper in what I do, but they have not made me more significant in the eyes of God.
God does not love you more if you gain more knowledge. You are not significant to Him because of your performance, your parents, your possessions, your position, or your personality. You are loved and significant because He created you and wants you in His eternal family. Thank Him for loving you!
