      Passage: Psalm 115:1-18

A Sunday School teacher was giving a lesson on God’s creation in nature. She asked, “What is brown, has a bushy tail, lives in trees and eats nuts?” One little boy answered, “I know the answer is Jesus, but it sounds like a squirrel to me.” When it comes to the question of What is Christmas?, some surveys show that less than half of the people in America would probably say the answer is Jesus, but He is the answer.

The very word, Christmas, points to Jesus Christ. Christ is the title of for Jesus as the Anointed One of God, the Deliver who would restore what was lost in the Garden of Eden. The word “mas” is shorted from “mass”, which is a worship service. In the Latin, “mass” also means “sent”. Literally, Christmas is “Christ - worship”, or “Christ - sent”. When we say Christmas, we are pointing out that God sent His Son to be the Savior of the world and He is worthy of our worship. Christmas is Jesus and everything about Him is good news for you.
