Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” (John 1:3-5)
Passage: Psalm 139:7-18
Every person born is created in the image of God and though the image is marred by sin, there is something inside of every person that knows there must be something more than this earthly existence. The universe and all of creation is too amazing and complex to have simply materialized out of nothing and those who would deny the existence of a Creator are simply choosing to ignore the obvious. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us that God “has set eternity in the heart so men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Augustine called this sense of the Divine, “a light of eternal reason.”
That light is God the Son, Jesus. He is the infinite God in His person and He is the infinite God in His power and His presence. John points out that Jesus is the Creator of all things. He also states that the presence of Jesus is the light in the world that can never be extinguished or escaped. When a toddler plays “peek a boo”, he thinks that because he can’t see his parent or grandparent, that they can’t see him, but that is the child’s lack of understanding. God sees everyone and Jesus came to the world and let the world see God. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
