Distinct Faithfulness is Confident and Competent

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant – not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Corinthians 3:4-6)
      Passage: Psalm 18:25-35

The Apostle Paul told the Corinthian believers that he was confident in them as being competent to live faithfully and be living testimonies for Christ. His confidence was not based on their ability to follow the Laws of the Old Testament perfectly. None of us can do that. We are all sinners. His confidence was based upon Christ living in them through the Holy Spirit, who gave them spiritual life and empowered them to live out the gospel.
The distinct faithfulness that is a part of the fruit of the Spirit is confident in God’s work and makes you competent to do God’s will. When God calls you to do something in His Kingdom, He will equip you and enable you to do it. You may sense a call to do something that takes you out of your comfort zone and your normal reaction would be to say, “I can’t do that”. You would be right in that, but Jesus in you can. You were made to be a disciple of Christ who reflects Him to the world. Put your confidence in Christ and know that He makes you competent to serve.
