Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done.”    (Proverbs 19:17)
  Passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Last Sunday night, the Super Bowl in New Orleans was watched by over 100 million people. The Philadelphia Eagles won the game, but unless you are an Eagles fan or a true football trivia expert, the memory of who won will fade over time. Quick – Can you name the winner of the Super Bowl ten years ago? I can’t either. That lets me know that, while the Super Bowl is a cultural phenomenon that costs thousands of dollars to attend and millions of dollars for an advertisement, it does not have the eternal significance of a gift given in kindness to someone in need.
Our church joined thousands of churches across the United States in doing a mission project called “Tackle Hunger” on the day of the Super Bowl. Our church family brought food items and took up an offering to be distributed in our city and given to fight hunger across our state. Every one of those canned goods and every dime put in the cooking pots used to collect the offering was recorded in heaven and was considered by God to be a loan. He promises a reward to those who are kind to the poor. Any gift you give in kindness is remembered and the effect is more lasting than any trophy handed out at the Super Bowl each year.
