Passage: Galatians 4:1-7
The coming of Jesus, God the Son, was not an afterthought in the mind and heart of God. It was in God’s plan from before He created the earth and mankind. Revelation 13:8 speaks of the Book of Life “belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.” God announced the plan of a Messiah in the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve had sinned. His plan was narrowed to the line of Abraham and narrowed further to the family line of David. In spite of the rebellion of his people, God was patient and kept sending them prophets, but finally, the time was right for God the Son to take on flesh and come to do the work of redemption.
Jesus pointed to himself in the parable of the talents. The landowner (God the Father), sent servants (prophets), and finally sent his son (God the Son-Jesus). Jesus came because God is love. There’s no other explanation. God loves people. Period. Not because of anything anyone could do to deserve it. He loves people because of who He is. The simplest, yet most profound of all verses is John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus is God and His death on the cross is the greatest expression of the love of God. How wonderful He is!
