Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ So, they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants? ‘He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,’ they replied, ‘and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.’ ” (Matthew 21:38-41)
Passage: John 3:16-21
People in the world don’t mind hearing that God is love. What they don’t like hearing is that God is just. The very reason we have a system of justice in society is that God made man in His image and wired into man a sense of justice when a wrong is committed. Jesus asked the Pharisees to response to the question from the parable concerning what the landowner would do to the tenants who had not only abused the servants who were sent before, but who then rejected the landowner’s son and killed him. They rightly answered with a sense of justice. The landowner would bring just punishment to them.
Romans 6:23a says, “The wages of sin is death. . .” That is because God is just. Romans 6:23b says, “. . . but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” That is because God is love. God cannot let sin into heaven, so His solution is to wipe out the sin record of anyone who believes and receives Christ. Jesus took the penalty for sin, so we could have the prize of eternal life. How wonderful He is!
