Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Abraham looked up and there in the thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.” (Genesis 22:13)
Passage: Matthew 6:28-33
While Abraham and Isaac were walking to Mount Moriah, where God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac spoke up and asked, “Where is the lamb?” Abraham’s first response was “God will provide the lamb.” I imagine Abraham keep looking around to see if God had a lamb in the area, but at some point, he told Isaac what God had told him to do. I can picture Isaac asking, “Are you sure that’s what God said?”, but what impresses me as much as Abraham’s faith and perhaps even more, is the Isaac’s faith. Isaac was not a small child. He was an older teen or young man, strong enough to resist being tied up. However, in the pattern Jesus would follow, Isaac, carried the wood to the altar and willingly allowed himself to be tied up, believing God would raise him if his father killed him.
Just as Abraham was about to bring down the knife, an angel called out and stopped him. Abraham then looked and saw a ram in the thicket. God provided something even bigger than what Abraham had looked for and that is something God often does in His provision for us. (Ephesians 3:20-21) Watch for His provision with active faith that worships and serves Christ. He will take care of you.
