Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Now Joshua, son of Nun, was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses. Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. . .” (Deuteronomy 34:9-10)
Passage: Joshua 1:1-9
When Joshua wrote these words that described himself as the successor to Moses and he gave a stirring eulogy of how close Moses was to God, he was probably thinking of what is recorded in Exodus 33:11. It tells us, “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.
Joshua learned a lot from following Moses and being his aide, but the greatest thing he learned was that the secret of Moses’ life was found in the closeness of Moses’ relationship with God. Joshua followed Moses everywhere, except for some time when Moses would finish speaking with God inside the Tent of Meeting and then leave to go back to speak to the people. Joshua stayed at the Tent. He learned to listen to God’s voice for himself. Later, when it was his turn to lead the people, he was ready. Not just because he was with Moses, but because he was with God. Never neglect your own time with God. He loves that time with you.
