God is in Control

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, ‘You know nothing at all! You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.’ He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God to bring them together and make them on. So, from that day on they plotted to take His life.” (John 11:49-53)
       Passage: John 10:14-18

Caiaphas was an illegitimate High Priest. According to Jewish law given by God to Moses, the High Priest had to be a blood descendant of Aaron, Moses’s brother. Caiaphas had married the daughter of Annas, who was the High Priest by descent. He was actually appointed by Rome, who picked him to be in that position. The Jewish leadership went along because of their fear of Roman reprisal, and they justified their acceptance by him being related to Annas by marriage. When he spoke up about killing Jesus, he was thinking politically that it was better if Jesus died than for Rome to kill many people who might be part of a rebellion. He didn’t realize he was actually predicting that Jesus would die on behalf of the whole world. God was in control then. He is in control today. All that Caiaphas plotted, God had planned. Thank God for what Jesus has done for you.
