Be Conscientious in your Work and Consistent in Your Purpose

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10-13)
Passage: Colossians 3:23-24; Galatians 6:9-10
Today is the only day that you are guaranteed. Solomon was conscious of that and so he laid out principles for making every day we live count for God and the good of others and ourselves. One of those ways is to be conscientious to do our best in whatever work we have today. Whether at a paying job or volunteering in service in your church or community, Paul challenges us to take the attitude that we are working for Jesus. That attitude will help bring out our best and will bring blessing to our lives and those we work with.
A second principle is to be consistent in pursuing God’s purpose for you. He wants you to glorify Him and work with Him to build His Kingdom in your home, your work, your life. In the journey of your life, there will be obstacles and tough times that may tempt you to quit. Look ahead. Life is not a 100 yard dash. It is a marathon. Every day is one segment. Stay the course. Trust God. He will never leave you and He will see you through today.
