Concerns of the Wise

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.” (Ecclesiastes 9:17-18)
      Passage: Psalm 89:1-8

As progress through the stages of life, the things that they are concerned about tend to change. In a very general look, children are concerned about toys and treats, teenagers are concerned about clothes, cars and cash, adults get concerned about family, finances and the future and Baptist preachers like me, tend to be concerned about buildings, budgets and baptisms. All of those things are part of life and they have their place, but none of them are the greatest concerns God wants His people to have.

King Solomon looked back on his life, at all he learned and all he did in being concerned about seeking to find out if true meaning and satisfaction could be found under the sun, or on this earth if one did not have God in his life. He shared his finding that the concerns of this world, when pursued without God are foolishness and meaningless. He saw that he, who was so wise, had spent much of his life living as a fool. His word to us might be, “Listen to my words and be warned by my example. Don’t make your primary concerns be the things of this world. Make your primary concern be to life a wise life with Christ at the center.” Living a wise life will be beneficial to you and everyone around you.
