FAMILY MATTERS

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “He was in the world, and thought the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God - children not born of natural descent, nor of a human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (John 1:10-13)
       Passage: Psalm 56:10-13

        In the Bible, God gives many different illustrations to describe our relationship to Him as individual believers and as part of the church. We are the Body of Christ. Jesus is the head, or brain, and we form His body. We are the building of God. Jesus is both the perfect foundation and the chief cornerstone. We are the bride of Christ with Jesus as the groom. We are sheep and He is our Good Shepherd.

All of these give beautiful and understandable pictures to us, but there is one more that is my personal favorite.  We are the family of God. God is our Father. Jesus Christ is our elder brother. Isaiah 66:13 says, “As a mother comforts her child, I will comfort you.” Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Comforter. John tell us that everyone who believes and receives Jesus is born into God’s family and becomes an eternal child of God. God designed the family and He has a spiritual family. That family consists of all ages from children to senior adults. It consists of male and female. It consists of married couples and single adults. Family matters to God and we should always seek to let our lives matter for Him.
