Passage: Psalm 40:1-8
Numbers 13 tells the history of the twelve spies who were sent to explore the land of Canaan. Caleb was picked from the tribe of Judah to be one of the twelve. He heard God’s word say, “Send men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites.” (Numbers 13:2) Caleb understood that their task was not to decide if they could conquer the land. Their job was to bring a report about the prosperity of the land and to help map it out so a strategy could be develop to possess the land. When ten of the spies told the Israelites that the people and the cities were too large for them to defeat, Caleb spoke up and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” (Numbers 13:30)
Caleb was a man surrendered to God’s will. He was surrendered completely. He was convicted about God’s plan and he was sold out to follow God’s plan. His surrender was complete, consistent, and cheerful. He didn’t stop dreaming and he didn’t complain during all the wilderness years. Kingdom builders want God’s will to be done and they are surrendered totally to do it.
