TITUS - Strong Believers and Churches

Read - (2 1/2 minutes) - "Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. . . To Titus, my true son in our common faith: . . . The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.” (Titus 1:1, 4-5)

There are over 350,000 Christian churches in America. Various studies estimate that anywhere from 65-85% of them are either plateaued or declining. I am sure that the vast majority of those began with the intention to grow and make an impact for Christ, but along the way, the lost their focus on reaching outward and they turned inward. In an analogy of being the body of Christ, the church quit exercising the spiritual disciplines of God’s full purposes and they began to lose their stamina and began to atrophy.
God wants His local churches to be strong and healthy. The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to His son in the ministry, Titus, who he had taken with him and left on the island of Crete after Paul had been released from his first Roman imprisonment described in Acts 28. Crete is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Greece. It was a major port city in the first century with international influence. Paul had led people to Christ while the boat he was traveling on as a prisoner to Rome stopped there for a brief time. Paul wanted Titus to help get the churches organized and stable. He wanted to help Titus develop believers and strong church on the island. God wants the same in your life and in your local church.
